Good Bye Little Radiated

Posted on October 2006 at about 2:04 AM by hwa

Just got a shocking news from my friend, saying that her Radiated Tortoise just died, been bitten by some other animal, half of the head gone! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I can’t believe this, just one month ago i brought this little Radiated back hometown and pass it to it’s owner, at that time the little Radiated looks healthy and eat quite a lot, and even spent a night in my house! Together with my Betty. But now it’s gone, everything happen so suddenly. ๐Ÿ™

I don’t dare to ask too much about the Radiated, but from what i know so far, the Radiated been bitten by some other animal while it’s sun bathing, most probably bitten by mouse or birds, i don’t know. It’s an accident, no one should be blame for this.

Raped By Probability And Statistics

Posted on October 2006 at about 4:33 AM by hwa

Final is coming, and the first subject to test will be Probability and Statistics. ๐Ÿ™

I’m no good in mathematics, i admit that, especially Probability and Statistics. I’m ok in calculus, not bad in algebra, but not Probability and Statistics. ๐Ÿ™ I don’t know why they want an IT student to take Probability and Statistics, calculate the success rate in sending data between two different brand of cables? Well this the sample question in my tutorial! ๐Ÿ˜•

If they really want us to take this subject, they at least come out a questions that’s much more interesting that, such as the success rate of passing this subject with out study! ๐Ÿ˜†

Life is sucks when you have to force your self to do something that you don’t like you know? Of course i’m not saying that my life is bad just because my exam is coming, what i mean is we only live once, so why bother? It’s true that sometime the condition are not allow us to do whatever we want, but human should enjoy their life, for we are born to be free, freedom is our greatest asset, at least that’s what i think. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well! Guess that’s all for now, i’m back to study. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Google AdSense Collapsing Ad Units

Posted on October 2006 at about 3:56 AM by hwa

If you are subscribing with Google AdSense, and feel that PSAs (Public Service Ads) is spoiling the look of your blog or website, or simply think that PSAs doesn’t make any profit to you, then you may consider to use the Alternate Ads to display something that you like, such as an image or other advertisement, or perhaps you might want to try the Collapsing Ad Units.

Collapsing Ad Units is an alternative way for you to do something with your advertisement space if there are nothing from Google to advertise, in fact the Collapsing Ad Units will just close your advertisement space so that the particular space will looks like normal page without any advertisement. To me i think that this is the best way to preserve your blog or website look.

In order to use the Collapsing Ad Units, first you must download and host a small HTML file on your domain, remember that the HTML file must hosted on each of your domain or subdomain that you display your Google AdSense, you can’t share the HTML file.

To start using the Collapsing Ad Units please do the following:-

  1. Download the collapsing ad units file below by right-clicking and choose “Save Link As…”.
    collapsing ad units file
  2. Upload the collapsing ad units file to your domain/subdomain, please note that each collapsing ad units file only for one domain/subdomain, so mean you have more than one domain/subdomain to do the collapsing ad units then you have to upload collapsing ad units file to each corresponding domain/subdomain.
  3. Login to your Google AdSense account then go to AdSense Setup, enter the full URL path to your collapsing ad units file (like the one below) into the Alternate Ads URL text box to generate your AdSense code.
    http://www.example.com/scripts/google_adsense_script.html
  4. Copy and paste your AdSense code into your web pages.

Please note that this Collapsing Ad Units will only work if you host your blog/website in an external server or previously upgraded to Blog*Spot Plus.

Visual.SpellCheck And Sociable Fix

Posted on October 2006 at about 4:52 AM by hwa

For those who use the WordPress plugin Visual.SpellCheck and Sociable, i don’t know whether this happen to you or not, but for me if i enable both plugin i will get this strange problem where the “Check Spelling” button from the plugin Visual.SpellCheck in my editor doesn’t show up.

So i went dig up the code and found out that it’s actually the JavaScript from Sociable crashed with the one from Visual.SpellCheck. The JavaScript is from line 355 until 370 in sociable.php, the function of this script is to enable drag and drop in Sociable option page, which i think is very cool.

Anyway i noticed that this block of JavaScript will load every time even thought you are not in the option page, which i think is not necessary. So i moved the JavaScript from line number 355 until 370 which should looks like this:-

  1. <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"><!--
  2. var dragsort = ToolMan.dragsort();
  3. var junkdrawer = ToolMan.junkdrawer();
  4. window.onload = function() {
  5.     dragsort.makeListSortable(
  6.         document.getElementById("sociable_site_list")
  7.     );
  8. }
  9.
  10. /* make checkbox action prettier */
  11. function toggle_checkbox(id) {
  12.   var checkbox = document.getElementById(id);
  13.     if (checkbox.checked)
  14.         checkbox.parentNode.className = 'active';
  15.     else
  16.         checkbox.parentNode.className = 'inactive';
  17. }
  18. --></script>

And paste the above JavaScript block to line number 504, just before the drag and drop in Sociable option page, or anywhere before the following line:-

  1. <ul id="sociable_site_list"></ul>

And this should fix the “Check Spelling” button won’t load problem. The idea is to only load the JavaScript block in the Sociable option page.

Japanese Spiderman Episode One

Boy you guys should watch this!! Remember the Japanese Spiderman i was talking about the other day? I found another one, full episode!! Watch how he become Spiderman, and summon his Hitotsu Genie!! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜†

WordPress Spell Check Plugin

Posted on September 2006 at about 5:02 AM by hwa

I have to admit that my English is bad, not only grammar, but the spelling as well, so i do a lot of spelling mistakes. Although there’s a spell check implemented together with the WYSIWYG in WordPress 2.0, but the problems is i don’t use WYSIWYG. So i went out and start searching for WordPress spell check plugin.

There are several WordPress spell check plugin i found on the net, but only one that i really like, introducing Visual.SpellCheck by Matthew Delmarter, an AJAX spell checker that function almost like the one in Gmail, but Pspell must be installed on your server in order to use this plugin.

Visual.SpellCheck
Visual.SpellCheck screenshot.

There’s a live demo in the plugin website, go ahead and try it out, i would say so far this is the best spell check plugin for WordPress.

However it seem like there’s a little problem with this plugin if you use it together with Sociable, a social bookmarking plugin by Peter Harkins, the button “Check Spelling” just don’t want to show up in editor if Sociable is enabled. But worry not, i have a simple fix that will fix this problem, will compile it and post later because now is almost 5am and i’m blur. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

You can download Visual.SpellCheck at here.

Edit: You can find the Visual.SpellCheck And Sociable fix at here.
