Posted on February 2007 at about 3:56 AM by hwa

For the Chinese communities, today is one of the most important day throughout the year! It’s the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, and this year it’s the year of pig!! Chinese New Year is celebrated on the very first day of the lunar calendar, and we will continue to celebrate it for around two weeks, fifteen days to be exact.

However the most important day is actually the night before the Chinese New Year, the Chinese New Year’s Eve. On this night every Chinese will try their best to go back to their hometown to have the reunion dinner, everyone in the family will gather together, and have dinner on the same table if possible, each dishes on the table will have their own meaning as well.

Anyway, we here in hwa2u.com would like to wish everyone 新年快乐!万事如意!!

bbPress 0.8 Desmond

Posted on February 2007 at about 4:43 PM by hwa

This is actually quite an old news already, the bbPress 0.8 Desmond was already released on 8th February.

Here are some of the feature this version had improved, quoted from bbPress blog:

  • Forum deletion
  • Multibyte tags
  • Custom locations for themes, plugins and config.php
  • Multiple theme support

And these are the new features that’s added in this version, also quoted from bbPress blog: 🙂

  • Better timezone support, You’re no longer restricted to showing all your times in the timezone of your server (what an odd requirement that was)
  • Whitespace preservation of ‘backticked’ blocks.

There’s a special instruction for those who want to upgrade to this version, because this version support multiple theme and you have to put each of the theme files into sub directory of my-templates, just put your current theme into any folder and upload this folder to my-templates, then activate the theme in your bbPress’ Presentation Admin panel.

Performancing Partners Closed

Posted on February 2007 at about 11:32 PM by hwa

Today when i came to my blog, i noticed that the Performancing Partners Ad is disappearing from my sidebar, at first i thought probably it’s because the server was overloaded by spam or something, or even worst my account get banned, so i went to the website and have a look, but what i found out was rather surprising.

Something happened to Performancing Partners and it has to be closed, i’m not sure about what is actually going on but from this news here apparently that one of the main reason is they don’t have enough fund to run the program.

It’s sad though, although my Performancing Partners Ad space was never been bought by anyone before but still it’s sad to see a potential new internet marketing went down like that. 🙁

WordPress Theme Reset To Default

Posted on January 2007 at about 1:33 AM by hwa

Upon i upgraded my WordPress to version 2.1, i encountered a few time where my WordPress theme reset to default, the one by binarybonsai.

At first i thought it’s a bug in WordPress 2.1 so i went to the support forum and try to find post with similar problem, if this really a bug then it should be a lot of people talking and complaining about it but strangely not, So i dug even deeper and found this, a post by Scott Burkett explaining what cause the problem.

Apparently most of them who face this trouble has this plugin installed, WP-Mobile by Alex King, don’t get me wrong it’s not the plugin fault, the plugin works great and do what it suppose to do, but it’s the user who didn’t read the instructions well, that’s me. 😳

While most WordPress plugins will require only the user to upload all the related files into the wp-content/plugins folder, but WP-Mobile require you to upload some other file to the wp-content/themes folder.

Anyway here’s what Scott Burkett explain about the problem:

It turns out that I had not properly followed the instructions provided by Alex in the plugin archive. Instead of following the instructions, and copying the files into the places he specified, I just unzipped them into the plugins directory and activated it. That was the whole problem – I needed to copy his “wp-mobile” theme over into the wp-content/themes directory. WordPress was trying to find it, and couldn’t, so it reverted automatically back to the default theme.

So next time read the README file carefully, and make sure you understand it! Imagine that if i report this to WordPress as a bug. 😯

Where Is Malaysia??

Posted on January 2007 at about 5:04 PM by hwa

It’s shame that during this time there are still people who don’t know where is Malaysia, i met some of them especially during online gaming, where i said i’m from Malaysia and they was like huh? Where’s that?? 😯

With all the world event happened here, and places like Sepang F1 International Circuit, The Petronas Twin Tower and so on, how can these people still don’t know where is Malaysia? Please go back and revise your Geography before you come back and talk to me!! 👿

Next time if someone ask me where is Malaysia again, this is what i’m going to do!!

him: Where’s Malaysia??
me: Huh? You don’t know Malaysia? Then do you know Singapore??
him: Yes…
me: Then how bout Thailand???
him: Yeah of course.
me: Then how come you don’t know Malaysia? MALAYSIA IS JUST BETWEEN SINGAPORE AND THAILAND!!! Shame on you!!!!

Duh!!

WP Grins 1.3

Posted on January 2007 at about 1:04 AM by hwa

WP Grins 1.3 by Alex King just released today! The old version doesn’t work in WordPress 2.1 but this one does.

WP Grins is one of the earliest plugins that i installed into my blog, it create a line of click able smilies below your editor so that you can put WordPress smilies by clicking on them, very convenience though, instead of memorizing all the BBcode.

One of the biggest changes in this version is that it’s now become a “pure plugin” like Alex King said, before this you have to do a little hack to your WordPress files for the smilies to appear in your editor, but now all you have to do just activate the plugin and the smilies will appear below your editor. 😉
