Good Bye Holiday…

Posted on May 2005 at about 3:29 AM by hwa

Well! Tomorrow i will going back to KL! Er… should say later in the evening, it’s 2.50AM already. ๐Ÿ˜† And this mean that my holiday is going to finish, only few days left. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

This holiday can say not as bad as last time, at least i don’t have to spend it all alone. I mean i make some new friends, three of them totally, they are nice, giving me a really precious memories. Many thing have happened, funny, laughter, joy… All the good thing are packed together and shared each one of us.

For me i have a weird thought that i think there’s no “Friendship Forever” such thing. Friends come and go, those who you consider as “Best Friend” will soon become just “friend”. ๐Ÿ™

But don’t you people think the same? I mean, when we go to primary school, we make new friends. Then when go into secondary, some of our friends go other place, we lost them, then we make another new one. The same thing will happen when we continue our journey.

Darn!! Feeling so heavy now, been such a long time since i have this kind of feeling, i hate it. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Wish you luck my friends, all the best… ๐Ÿ™‚

My Hometown

Posted on May 2005 at about 6:08 PM by hwa

Well guys, I’m originally from a small town called Ayer Tawar, but grow up in somewhere else. Anyway if anyone of you are interested in Ayer Tawar and the origin of Kutien, which is my dialect, here i found a very interesting story of it. Original post at here.

Ayer Tawar is a small town (in the state of Perak, Malaysia) on the Ipoh-KL highway. Cars rush through and kill people. Most people live on the road or nearby. The New Village, where my maternal grandmother lives was created during the Emergency caused by the Communist Insurgence (1948-1960). The other residential areas including Taman Dindings where my immediate family lives are all newer. Taman Dindings used to be rubber land. All around us is farmland, rubber and oil palm estates and jungle. All told, people in the town and on the land around numbered about 10,000 in 1995 when I was doing my Geography project. The economy is mostly agricultural.

The politics is mostly oppositional. (Yes, I know that’s not a word.) I suppose we have always been trouble-makers. ‘Chin Peng’ (real name Ong Boon Hua?), the leader of the Malaysian Communist Party (when it still existed) came from Sitiawan, which is next door. Last we heard (2001 or 2002) he’s still alive, kicking and running around in Thailand somewhere. The BBC interviewed him not so long ago. As for contemporary politics…suffice it to say we’re still making trouble.

The other thing Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan are famous for besides trouble-makers is good students. My family’s theory (we have many theories) is that this is because the towns are mostly Chinese (and hence discriminated against by government policies), but unlike the Chinese in much of the rest of the country, the people were farmers rather than businessmen. When you have nothing to eat and the government isn’t giving you handouts, the only way out is education. And I suppose those who didn’t feel like jumping through hoops started the Communist Party. Interestingly we have also produced 3 cabinet ministers. Some people from the cities are of the opinion that when you are surrounded by jungle there is nothing else to do but study. It could well be true, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

However, in recent years, with the overall increasing standard of living and all that, kids have been becoming lazy. It is said that threatening kids with starvation at the weekly assembly (at school) doesn’t work any more. And so we’re losing our edge in that sort of thing. But not entirely. The other thing is that having been so successful in the previous generation, people have moved away. You’ll find Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan engineers, doctors, lawyers and scientists…more or less all over the world. We can only use so many doctors and lawyers; engineers and scientists are useless in this little town. (Unfortunately this means I can’t go home. No, that’s not true.) Even so, we reputedly have one of the the highest concentration of doctors (as a percentage of population) in the country. If you take a walk down Jalan Besar (Big Road, i.e. The Road) you may well believe it.

Oh yes, where did we come from. In 1903, the Brits decided to bring people in to clear the land. They decided to get the help of the Methodist Mission because that Mission had previously helped with a similar settlement in Sibu, Sarawak in what is now East Malaysia and what was then British Borneo. So the Methodist bishop in Singapore arranged it somehow and the first settlers from Fuzhou, Fujian, China arrived in 1903. They first settled in what are now the various parts of Sitiawan and the surrounding villages. This important date (1903) is on Pioneer Church and is the founding date of the Anglo-Chinese (Methodist) School.

I’m always surprised when people from China, Taiwan and even Singapore think that all of Fujian speaks one dialect, Hokkien. It doesn’t. In fact, before the Communists, ten districts were under the Fuzhou (or Hokchew) prefecture, including Minchiang (Minqing), Hoochiang (Fuqing), Kutien (Gutian) and Changle. After the communists, Fuzhou became its own thing and the ten districts are now directly under the jurisdiction of Fujian. In any case, even these ten districts have only somewhat mutually intelligible dialects and I have heard that the number of dialects in the whole province of Fujian is about 70. The dialect known as Hokkien is spoken by some group I have failed to identify in the south, since the people from the former Fuzhou prefecture call them ‘nannuen’ (spelling very approximate to pronunciation, I don’t think the second vowel exists in English). My father says that random unidentifiable people from Fujian call themselves Hokkien after the province because their villages are so small nobody would recognize them anyway. Whereas we from Fuzhou know where we’re from. ๐Ÿ˜›

In any case, most of Ayer Tawar speaks Kutien, which means that you end up speaking Kutien no matter what your dialect was in the first place. Similarly, Kg. Cina in Sitiawan is mostly Hoochiang, Ipoh and KL mostly Cantoneese, Singapore and Penang mostly Hokkien.

I have yet to meet anyone from from Kutien or Hoochiang in the States. My family says ‘no surprise there’. After all, those ten districts are supposedly still dirt poor (‘why did we move to Malaysia?’) and produce mainly illegal immigrants these days. Naturally one wouldn’t meet them in academia. Good thing we got out, eh?

With the Methodist Mission and John Sung, you might imagine that there were a lot of Christians in the area a few decades ago. People are not so religious any more. That’s partly a global trend, partly other things. People say we were self-selected for stubbornness and ability to work like hell, having to clear farms from the jungle and so on. This may again be wishful thinking, but certainly people died and some people who couldn’t take the hard life went back to China. That was before Communism, of course.

Blue Tiger Eye Bracelet

Posted on May 2005 at about 1:39 AM by hwa

Yesterday just bought a brand new Blue Tiger Eye Bracelet from lelong.com.my for RM38 only! ๐Ÿ˜† Yaya i know that it’s damn freaking hell cheap, probably is a fake one maybe, but who care?? It’s RM38, i just hope that the fella who sell it will send me a nice looking one.

Well most of the time you will get a really good deal when you buy in lelong.com.my, or any other auction website such as eBay. But the problem is that you can’t choose the product you are buying, especially the item that you need to choose, like my bracelet. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Oh and you need to wait for the item to reach your home also, unless you are going to get it straight from the seller.

Anyway now back to my Blue Tiger Eye!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I heard people say there’s no such Blue Tiger Eye thing, honestly this is also the first time i heard about Blue Tiger Eye lol! ๐Ÿ˜† So I’m not sure about it does exist or not and i don’t really care neither, because that bracelet really caught my eye when i saw it! :p Hey it’s blue you know??!!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Well!! Now i just hope that i won’t get conned!!

Boring…

Posted on April 2005 at about 11:22 PM by hwa

Just came back from Pizza Hut, meeting with old friends, and you know what? It was damn hell boring!!!! ๐Ÿ˜• Regretted to go out with them.

People just keep on talking about their life in city, non stop!! Talking about how their life there, how the chicks and blokes in their university, where they had been so far, all those discos, pubs and then bragging on how nice their boyfriend or girlfriend and all those craps.

You see, it’s not that i don’t like city ok? In fact i found out that i love KL pretty much, i can find almost all the thing i want here, no matter it’s related to my study, any latest game or i just looking for entertainment, it’s all here in KL.

But the point is all of us are living in city now, we all study there and we all are facing the same old “city” thing everyday, nothing to talk about. But why the hell they still mentioning that?? Even when we all are still on holiday?? Don’t they feel boring?? I mean we all are on holiday now, don’t they think planing to go some trips would be more suitable?? Genting Highland? Or go to beach to have some salt water, wouldn’t it be more nice? But talking about their boring life?? Sorry mate that was sooooo boring!!! ๐Ÿ˜ก

Tomorrow they plan to go out again, this time to where i don’t know. But i guess i won’t go out with them anymore, at least for now. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

But for now, i just want to find something to eat, got Pasar Petang today, so going there to hunt some food!! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Life Goes On…

Posted on April 2005 at about 7:30 PM by hwa

Wow~ Look at the date, already one week since my last post!! Lol!! ๐Ÿ˜†

Actually I’m quite busy recently, meeting with friends, go out YamCha, bring friends go here and there and all those stuff. Life going normal these few days as well, sleep at the right time n wake up at the right time!! Don’t even have time to play games!! Haha!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hmm… I just realized that this is my shortest post so far!! ๐Ÿ˜†

Damn It!!

Posted on April 2005 at about 3:09 PM by hwa

Yesterday when i got back from Ipoh, after taking my bath and having my dinner, i got nothing to do so i decided to surf the Internet for a while. But then when i fire up my IE, i noticed some extra button near the address bar there… Shit! Spyware!! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Damn i hate those website cheating people to install some stupid thing in order to download their stuff!! They are abusing the term of sharing. Of course it’s not me who cause this PC infected, it was my stupid yet stubborn sis.:evil:

Actually i tried to remove the stupid thing before but it still there, so this mean i have to format my PC again. Formating PC of course is not a fun thing to do, you have to back up everything, and setting as well, especially if u have whole lots of shit inside your PC!

Anyway after wasted my two hours time and now my PC is back to normal already, hope my PC will keep in this healthy condition for at least after i go back to university. ๐Ÿ˜•

Home Sweet Home

Posted on April 2005 at about 12:07 PM by hwa

Aaaahh~~~ Finally i got home, feeling so good!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Holiday are nice, i like it sooooo much!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Yesterday was kind of tired, sitting in the bus for about four hours without taking any nap. After reach home it was like 4-5 PM, chat a while with my family then take bath, after that went for a walk then at night went yamcha with friends. ๐Ÿ˜†

I guess this will be my daily routing for this two month holiday, hanging around doing nothing, sitting in front PC online and getting lazy…

Well i didn’t plan to do anything during this holiday because this is the longest holiday since i get into my university, just want to take as much rest as i can, plus after holiday is my internship, so don’t feel want to take any part time job.

So for now, i just want to sit back and relax a bit, maybe soon i will figure out what to do during this holiday. haha life is so wonderful especially when it’s holiday! ๐Ÿ˜†

The Showcase

Posted on April 2005 at about 12:07 PM by hwa

Yesterday i went to the presentation that i mentioned early before, for those who don’t know which presentation please refer to here. And all i have to say to you guys is that it’s freaking hell scary!!

People from GameBrain, Phoenix Games, Terra ICT and all those big big company was there! Not only that! Even my lectures and tutors also coming!! What the hell they doing there also don’t know! And there are people taking photos, grabbing cams and doing all those shit. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Anyway the presentation went pretty well for me actually, nothing goes wrong and my game run perfectly, although the game is sucks, and at least didn’t choke while talking. ๐Ÿ˜›

There are five judges who is judging our game, those people are the “Big Guy” from local game company, Mike from Phoenix Games, Kevin and MeiLin (leng lui!!) from GameBrain, those people are the lead artist, lead game designer, lead whatever shit… Are there to judge our game.

For the marks… Well non of us get a satisfying marks actually, but we did learn a lot of thing, especially those related to gaming industry. We don’t make our game, but we make game for other people, if we can make a game that everyone likes then it’s a good game, or else it will be a piece of trash. Sounds very odd, but that’s how the real world looks like.

And another thing i did learn is, no matter how good your game are, how interesting the story is, how impressive the graphic are, but if you can’t finish the game in time, mean that it’s nothing more than just a piece of shit.

*sign* ๐Ÿ™ Well!! Now it’s all over already and guess what? Today i just finished my last paper and now is my holiday!!! Woohoo~~!!! Yosh~~~

A Thoughtful Comments

Posted on April 2005 at about 4:09 PM by hwa

Last night i asked one of my FCM (Faculty Of Creative Multimedia) friend about my design, well she said for a person without any design background, the design is ok, so i assume that it’s sucks. Ok never mind, but then she said my blog is boring, WTF??? ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Ok ok i admit that my blog is boring, ๐Ÿ˜† because me my self also feel kinda boring with it. Actually she is right, no body want to know my personal life, my presentation, my complain about how sucks Hotmail is and what’s going on in MMU and all those shit.

But hey!! Wait a minutes! This is my blog right?? My personal blog, so it’s suppose to talk about me!! So STFU and listen to me!! Damn it!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Well actually, before setting up this blog, i have thought on whether i really want to do this or not, want to let the world know about my daily life and all that. Or just simply create a personal homepage and put some stuff for people to download. But then this will be no meaning at all, because what i really want is a small personal space in the world of Internet, so finally i decided to setup a blog. ๐Ÿ˜‰ hehe.

Then the next problem comes in, how to attract people come. Well as you people might know that my English is kind of sucks you see, and i also don’t have any sense of humor, so writing some funny stuff is not my way to attract people, probably will chase people away. ๐Ÿ˜›

But hello~~!! This is my blog remember?? And a personal one! So who care??? I don’t give a damn on what people thinking!! Just continue write my blog and do the best i can!! Correct??? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

So for the people who reading my blog, thanks for reading!! I really appreciate that. And for those who leave messages in the Shout Box, man! I love you so much!!
